The Sidas World Foundation supports the protection of local biodiversity

We haven't yet presented the Chepy Terra association, supported since last summer by the Sidas World Foundation.

Chepy Terra is a local association working to reconcile heritage, art and nature on the Saint-Jean de Chépy estate in Tullins, close to SIDAS headquarters.

Respect for biodiversity has always been at the heart of the estate, that is why the association extended its activities in 2022 to accelerate the protection of the biodiversity so dear to the estate's owners.

With its forest, river, protected natural area, organic vegetable garden and beehives, the Saint-Jean de Chepy estate is a veritable haven of biodiversity, home to a diverse range of fauna.

This private estate is unique in that it is open to the public free of charge, including schools, and therefore plays a role in raising awareness of environmental issues, particularly the protection of biodiversity.

In recent years, the estate has been severely affected by ash blight, an invasive disease that has decimated a large proportion of the trees on this 10-hectare park.

Given the urgency of the situation, major felling and replanting work was undertaken. The works project addressed a number of issues:

  • Safety: several diseased trees had already fallen and many others were in danger of collapsing.
  • Preservation of the estate's biodiversity, as these trees, some of which were over a hundred years old, played an important role for species.
  • Raising awareness among future generations on the need to protect biodiversity and, more generally, to fight climate change.

It is in this context that the Sidas World Foundation has chosen to support the Chepy Terra Association over a 3-year period, mainly in the planting phase.

To date, most of the diseased trees have been cut down and around a hundred new trees and shrubs have been planted on the estate.

On Thursday 7 December, around fifteen volunteers from the Sidas World Foundation were on hand at the Domaine Saint-Jean de Chepy for a tour of the estate to raise awareness on biodiversity protection.

The projects we support at the Foundation also have an educational vocation for company staff, because raising awareness is the first step before taking action!
